Hotels (all prices for double bedroom with attached bathroom, except at Ngapali beach):
Yangon: Beautyland II, 15 $, ok; White House Hotel, 16 $, Breakfast great, Rooms lousy; many travelers recommend the Motherland II, itÕs a little out of center but there is a good bus connection to Sule Paya.
Kalaw: Parami Hotel, 6 $, good value.
Nyaungshwe: Remember Inn, 8 $, best guesthouse we had in Myanmar, however it appears that the 25 postcards we sent from here did never make it to their destination, Gipsy Inn: 8 $, not recommended; many travelers recommend the ÔFour Sisters InnÕ.
Mandalay: Nylon Hotel, 10$, not recommended
Bagan: New Port Hotel, 10 or 14 $, good value.
Pyay: Smiles Inn: 11$, below average
Ngapali Beach: Royal Beach Motel, 10 $, very friendly staff but we didnÕt like the owner (he was unfriendly, all the staff had to wait on him, children from the nearby fisher village were really afraid of him and indicated that he would beat them.)

Other:
Bus prices are constantly rising. By the end of February they were about twice as high as reported in the latest LP.
Trekking from Inle Lake to Kalaw: We had arranged a tour with a guide called Ni Ni Win in Nyaungshwe who advertises to be the only women trekking guide. We (especially my wife) liked the idea to have a women trekking guide. But soon after we had started our women trekking guide disappeared without any explanation and let us walk with a guide named Robert. He was a good cook but he was always ahead of us and his English wasnÕt very good so that we couldnÕt learn much from him. We met another couple whose guide seemed to be much better. His name is Nyi Nyi Naing and he is also located in Nyaungshwe.
Sarabha Restaurant in Bagan served us two (tasty) dishes with pork although we had ordered chicken and tried to tell us that Myanmar chicken tastes like that (up to that time we had already lived on Myanmar chicken for more than two weeks).
Taxi from Pyay to Ngapali Beach for 100$ (4 persons) was not worthwhile. On our way back we took the bus which was just as comfortable and only 90 minutes slower (9.5 instead of 8h). Either way this ride is certainly no pleasure, even the less if the bus is loaded with dry fish.
