Checkpoints to reopen
Burma will reopen its border checkpoints with Thailand on Oct 15 after a stand-off lasting almost five months, foreign affairs permanent secretary Tej Bunnag announced last night.
He was speaking on his return from a visit to Rangoon.
Burma closed its border with Thailand after a border incident on May 20.
Burma will temporarily open the Myawaddy-Mae Sot checkpoint today to allow Burmese goods into Mae Sot. The goods are part of a Burmese exhibit at the Asean Trade Fair to be held soon in Bangkok.
